TAKE A COFFEE BREAK

To any Coffee drinker there isn’t quite anything like that first sip of heaven when you wake up in the morning. Taking a trip to your local barista on the way to work… or the 11am caffeine craving… and don’t even get me started on the pick-me-up you get from a sneaky 3pm latte. Coffee is always there when you need it to get you through those last few hours in the office.

Last week I signed up to a 28 day Fitness challenge and, while doing this, I decided it was the perfect time to give my body a rest from Caffeine (as well as alcohol and any processed foods). I like to think I’m not addicted to Coffee, but I do think it can become a bit of a dependency to get you through different times of the day. Years of working in Retail on the shop floor it was what got me through and kept my energy levels up. Earlier in the year I started working in a Office environment and for the first time in my working career and noticed I was drinking 2 (sometimes 3) coffees a day, thinking I needed it to keep me going till it hit 5pm.

A good Coffee alternative, 1 cup of Matcha can have up to 10 x the nutritional value of regular green tea

It’s only been 8 days and I still have 20 to go but already I have noticed I am getting a solid sleep every night without waking up (which was always a struggle for me) and Im not crashing at 3pm every day like I normally would. Caffeine is only your friend if you don’t over do it. It’s like a needy or high maintenance friend. Always great to spend some time together, but don’t let them get too close.

3 SIGNS IT’S TIME TO TAKE A BREAK

  • Feeling like you need Coffee in the afternoon
  • Feeling no physical effect from Coffee consumption
  • Experiencing symptoms of adrenal fatigue or low thyroid function

2 alternatives to Coffee I am currently trying and cannot get enough of is Matcha Maiden, a 100% pure stone ground green tea, and Tumeric Lattes. Both of these in their own right are high in Antioxidants and Amino Acids, good for digestion, gut health and liver function. By consuming either of these each morning, I am still going through the motions of waking up with a hot beverage knowing it won’t give me a crash a few hours later.

Matcha is great for Immunity, Metabolism, Energy & Focus, and contains abundance of Vitamins and Minerals. Having this in the morning with a dash of Almond Milk has made giving up the Coffee a lot easier to deal with.

I encourage everyone to take some time to reflect on what coffee means to you and why you consume it each day? There is nothing wrong with it and I can’t wait to celebrate the 28 days with a espresso from my Lavazza machine, but sometimes it doesn’t hurt to listen to your body, keep it hydrated and reset.
